We use our heater in a 10 X 12 sunroom. There is no other source of heat. We turn it on when we get up in the morning and it only takes 10 or 12 minutes to warm the room enough for us to sit and have our coffee. When it reaches a comfortable temp. we turn it back until it shuts off and we're set for the day. The auto feature keeps it good all day. We have several Vornado fans for summer and would only buy Vornado.

Only for enclosed spaces!

I bought the unit for a doorless room that's roughly 12 feet by 12 feet (they say 16 by 16 is the max) but didn't know the space had to be enclosed i.e., I need a door! The Vornado gave off more smell than heat although that would presumably burn off in time. It might work in an enclosed space but I didn't test it since an enclosed room wasn't where I needed it. The noise the unit puts off scared our cat. She avoided the unit (and the room!) for the roughly two hours we tested it.
