I've had this unit for two winters. On low setting it is quiet but on high not so much. If you have hard water as I have then the filter will likely not catch all impurities and you will have some fine white dust to contend with. As I only run this unit in winter dust is preferable over dry air etc.. If I had a whole house humidifier the hard water would affect the furnace components and so this unit is the more optimal and less expensive alternatives. It humidifies my top floor and runs 24/7 without any issues. Ib fact it also reaches my main floor as well. Price tag is a little hefty but you get what you pay for as I have tried other manufacturers with poor performance results. I also have two Labrador retrievers and this aids in reducing their dry skin in winter.

Simple product with great impact

The humidifier made my whole house much more comfortable. The humidity level was increased and kept consistent over time. My family really enjoyed the filling method with the cap. It prevented a lot of spillage that we had experienced with other humidifiers.

this is my second vornado humdifier, my first one I made the mistake of loaning out to a friend, I never got it back! I live in a very dry enviroment in Colorado, this humidifier had eliminated the dry nose infections that I experience in the winter. The only problem I am having is that I ran the unit on the warm mist setting for the entire winter and the plastic tank is now changed to white on the bottom half. This has led to the water leaking out of the tank. has anyone else had this happen?

You have to get it to believe it. Whoever thought of combining humidity with a fan, creating a cyclonic burst of vapor, is a genius. The mist actually is pushed out into the air so that it dispenses into the atmosphere instead of falling to the ground creating a wet spot.
It is easy to keep clean, is quite handsome and a conversation piece!!
Everyone that comes over and sees it is impressed!! It's COOL!!
If you have forced hot air, you need one. I promise you, you will love it.
White dust- it comes with any humidifier. Just wipe it off, it doesn't harm anything. I mean, you gotta dust anyways right?

Worth the money--and then some!

I had tried less expensive humidifiers from other companies in the past. They never worked for long. The store recommended this model. Although more expensive, it has worked--and I mean worked--every day for over two years. I have just put in my fourth replacement cartridge, and it continues to do the job. Just clean it as the manual instructs, replace the cartridges when indicated, and you get great performance.

This product had been workng well until the humidstat failed. No electro-mechanical device is perfect and I do not fault Vornado for this problem.
I was absolutely delighted by the easy replacement policy under warranty. I did not have to return the machine nor will I have to bear any shipping costs. I simply needed to provide a photo showing that the humidifier had been disabled. As this was done my email, the new unit will be shipped on the same day as I sent the message.
Wow! It could not have been better or easier.

Since I switched to distilled water, the unit is wonderful. When using tap (pre-treated water), there was white dust everywhere. I was choking on it and there was a haze in the house. I wishe the use of distilled water was in the booklet. I read about using it in another blog.

I purchased the Ultra Sonic Humidifier in October because our older models of the vortex were large a combersome not to mention quite loud when the water ran out. With the ultra sonic version I like that I don't have the paper filters to replace and I especially like that it has both cool and warm mist settings which were recommended by my kids pediatrician. This helped when my son had the croup real bad the cool setting helped him breathe easier at night. Since we took the one out of our room for him over a week ago, I didn't realize just how much the extra moister in the air helped my husband and I sleep at night. During that week we both woke up with dry mouth and nose. So today I ran out and bought a second one. We will buy a third one for my daughters room after the holidays. Love the sleek design it takes up a third less room than the previous model we owned. If you don't have one get one!

Bought this when my old warm air humidifier crumped. It is very sleek looking. Performs as advertised. On my model year I have NO PROBLEM with the screen brightness; push a button and screen lights up for adjusting settings, fades to black in about 10 seconds afterwards. Easy operation without annoying wicks/filters/bacterial solutions. I LOVE the hot/cool mist option. The low fan setting has a tolerable noise level; the high is a bit more noisy (a touch rattle-ish). This product is more noisy than the space heater I bought, but it is tolerable for the great performance it gives. We have placed it in our upstairs foyer and we feel it humidifies MORE surface area than we expected; our room, kids rooms, from this central location.

I acquired this humidifier last year and it really helped me get through another Chicago winter. I keep it in the bedroom and as soon as I turn it on it changes the air and makes it so much easier to breathe! I swear it was the first time I did not get sick and I swear this product had something to do with it because my over all breathing, moisture retention of my skin, and even my sleep improved. So much so that I even use it in the summer!
The water tank is easy to refill and seems to last longer than my old humidifier. I haven't replaced the filter but plan on doing so soon. I also like the different setting options. Overall, great product!

I like everything about this product except for one critical problem. I would assume all Ultrasonic type humidifiers suffer from the same issue as well. When it vibrates the water for some odd reason it outputs white dust all over the place. Maybe it has to do with the minerals in the water being blown all over but it was horrible. I even used filtered water and and the same issue.
